Eugene (KMTR) - "They will understand that they're not the cause of poverty."  That's the message behind Saturday's Opportunity Conference hosted by the United Way of Lane County.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Donna Beegle, knows what she's talking about- she went from virtually nothing to earning a doctorate degree in just ten years.

Families say Beegle's experience shows that they can overcome the odds.  The conference gives them reason to believe that they can improve their lives for the better.

"It makes me want to work harder to make our life better and it makes me want to help other people too," says Kymbreona Hampton, who attended the conference.

That's nice, but my experience has been that its hard to keep borrowing for grad school unless it's in an area with immediate employment demands, ie pay/wages, the article does not address that. Please explain.
