Sutherlin, Or (KMTR) A man is in the hospital tonight after slamming head on into a railroad crossing arm. Police say just moments before, the suspect was going a hundred miles an hour, when he sped through a separate crash scene.

Police chased the driver, Billy Canfield, but not for long. They say he slammed into a railroad crossing, completely destroying his car, and taking out an entire guardrail.

Even after the extremely violent crash, Billy walked out of his car. Canfield then grabbed anything he could, broken glass or debris, and appeared to try and use them as weapons. Police had to use a tazer to subdue him.

Police say incidentally, about seven minutes before the crash, a member of Canfield's family called police, saying he could be suicidal. He's is listed in critical condition tonight.

According to family, this is Canfield's second attempt at suicide. He is an Iraqi Veteran and has been working with the Roseburg VA to combat his post traumatic stress.
