Eugene (KMTR) – Occupy Eugene protestors may stay in their current site at Washington-Jefferson Park for another month. The city council approved an exemption Wednesday, on a 4-to-2 vote, allowing the group to camp there until December 15.

The exception to park rules, how ever does not change other laws such as the sign code or drinking prohibitions.

Mayor Kitty Piercy thanked movement members, city police, and city management for keeping things peaceful.

Protester Paul Simon says it's all about getting along.

“We’ve been really working on collaborating with each other and finding a way to work in a capacity that's mutually beneficial, for not only the occupy movement, but also the city,” Simon said.

Eugene City Council Member Mike Clark voted against the exemption, saying he supports the group’s right to speak, but does not agree with giving preferential treatment to one group and not others.

What is so ridiculous about this movement is that they distanced themselves from the homeless. Aren't the homeless victims of wall street and banks. I guess you people can't relate to the common man who is actually a victim of the system. You all are a bunch of silver spoon, white liberals whose lofty ideals exclude the real victims. I also wonder why they got dumped in the whiteaker. Why does all the trash get dumped in the Whiteaker? Why not send them up to College Hill or South Eugene?
