EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- The man critically injured in an assault at Occupy Eugene’s Washington Jefferson Park camp on Monday night has died.

Eugene Police says 54-year old Rick Adam Youngblood of Florence, Oregon died around 2 a.m. on Friday, December 23rd, 2011.

Around 10:40 p.m. on Monday, December 19th, 2011, Eugene Police says Youngblood was involved in an assault with multiple people in the northeast corner of the Occupy Eugene camp.

EPD investigators say Youngblood was beaten, choked and suffered multiple facial fractures. Youngblood was found face down with no pulse and was not breathing. An EPD officer and Occupy Eugene medical volunteer gave the man CPR and he was taken to a local Eugene-area hospital.

Occupy Eugene protestors say Youngblood started the fight and was drunk at the time of the incident. Occupy Eugene protestors also say Youngblood had a heart condition.

Eugene Police continues to investigate, but says alcohol played a major factor in the situation. EPD says the incident is likely a case of “mutual combat.”

So far, no arrests have been made in the case.

“We know who all the people are who were involved in the fight, and they've all been interviewed,” said Chief Pete Kerns of the Eugene Police Department on Friday, addressing the media.

“There is a possibility that there will not be a prosecution, however the investigation isn't complete. Prosecutor hasn't seen all of the reports yet,” says

Occupy Eugene protestors are planning to hold a candlelight vigil in Youngblood’s name on Friday evening at 6:30 at the Wayne Morse Free Speech Plaza in downtown Eugene.

BS. But no drugs or achohol or vilonce should be around when there are KIDS there... this whole thing makes me mad. i have not seen or heard of 1 protest for over a month or so. All it has been is HOMELESS camp. get a job and a house.

This fight was caused by the man who wandered into the encampment drunk, looking for trouble. No one is being prosecuted because no person can be. Occupy protests attract the destitute and homeless because it offers services and support to those in need. Free medical attention to those willing to come in, three meals a day, a book tent, a clothing tent, counseling.. etc. This is what government should be. Its a shame that the city used this to close the whole encampment down. Of coarse there will be fights. Alcoholism and drug addiction are rampant problems in the homeless population. But they are people who have turned to these substances to remedy the lack of love and care early in life. If we want these probelms to go away, we must treat them at their source. Humanity is only as strong as it's weakest link. Occupy protests haved become a great opportunity for the average citizen to step in and take part in the restoration of our community, country, and humanity in whole. Parents who want to keep their children away from these substances should go help out with the homeless, learn from the addicts themselves why they turned to drugs, learn more about the substances themselves so they can identify the signs of drug use in their own household. Remaining oblivious and turning the cold shoulder can in no way help the situation. This isn't mainly a political protest this is a revival of values which touches on political misconduct. Something that has affected each individual and will continue to do so until the people unite to put an end to it.
