(KMTR) Troopers from the OSP Coos Bay office responded to a reported auto vs. bicycle injury traffic collision on Hwy 101 south of Bandon. Upon arrival, the troopers discovered they were dealing with a shooting and not a traffic collision. A preliminary investigation showed that Jeremy Platz, 40, of Bandon, was riding his bicycle on Hwy 101 when he sustained a gun shot wound to the leg. Platz was transported to OHSU hospital in Portland for treatment. He is reported to be in stable condition with a non-life threatening injury.

The Coos County Major Crimes Team was activated to investigate the shooting and Robert Melvin Walker, 70, of Bandon was arrested on charges of Assault in the First Degree (Assault I) and Attempted Murder. Walker was lodged in the Coos County Jail.
