Eugene (KMTR) - Students at Eugene’s O’Hara Catholic School hope their holiday food drive inspires other schools to do the same. The student leaders gave each classroom a “food assignment.” For example, kindergarteners were asked to bring cereal; other classrooms were assigned other staples.
Tuesday, they loaded lots of boxes of the food they collected into a truck headed for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
“It makes me feel really good knowing I’m helping people in need, people who don't have a lot,” said O’Hara student Kerissa Sheley.
Fellow student Ellie Vaungartner agreed, saying, “I really hope it's like a domino effect. I think if we start—I mean, we're only 500 kids at a Catholic school, but if we help, maybe it'll be a chain effect to other people to get involved, and help the community.”
The students also collected coats, turkeys and hams for the holidays.
