SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KMTR) -- Hundreds of runners of all ages took over 5th Street for the inaugural Nick Symmonds Springfield 800 Meter Race.
It’s the first of its kind, a straight 800-meter road race without turns. Symmonds and city administrators put the event together in just about a month and said they were very pleased with the turnout for the kickoff event.
The two-time Olympian says he hopes to grow the race and make it an annual event.
Proceeds from today's event went to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
