EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- With another Oregon Duck football season just about to start up, one of the team's seasonal traditions has returned: unveiling of another series of new uniforms.
Nike introduced the Ducks' new 2012 season uniforms on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 with a new look the University hopes fans will admire and new technology that Nike hopes the players will feel as well.
The replica uniforms are now up for sale at the UO campus and Autzen Stadium Duck Stores in four different colors: yellow, green, black and white.
In numbers 6, 20 and 24, the biggest visual change on the uniforms is the new style of feathers on the shoulders. The new, more angular feathers replace the mechanical looking feathers of the 2011 season's uniforms.
Depending on which base color uniform you pick, the feathers will either be glossy or matte style. Glossy feathers are featured on the green and white jerseys, while matte is on black and yellow.
Every jersey also has the words Mighty Oregon sewn inside the back collar. The jersey material is different too.
“They're incredibly different and so much better than previous ones. It feels more like an actual jersey that the players would wear, gives you a closer feel to the game almost,” said Jordan Hall, a Duck Store employee.
Hall says it was only about ten minutes after the doors opened that someone called to ask about the jerseys.
“As soon as we found out today, you know the 22nd was the unveiling date, we kind of looked at this as the start of football season. Things have been slowly picking up,” said Hall.
Pricewise the replica jerseys are between $85 to 90 for men and women's adult sizes. Youth jerseys will also go up for sale soon.
The authentic jerseys with sewn on patches will come out soon, costing $120.
For the players, Nike says the new full uniforms are made of sixteen different fabrics, making them lighter, cooler and more durable. Another Ducks product released Wednesday is the Oregon Duck Lunar TR-1+ shoes with Win the Day and Duck logos on them. Each pair costs $235. The Nike Store sold out of the shoes online in just six minutes on Wednesday.
