ROSEBURG (KMTR) - Beer brewing is becoming more popular across the nation, and for Roseburg, it is just now taking off.
Dogbarrel Brewery and Home Brew Supplies is Roseburg's first home brew supply store. The family business, run by two brothers and their dad, opened in January. Thomas, Russ, and their dad Kevin are still working on the brewery, but the brew supply store is open for business.
The family noticed that more people want to make their own beer, but Roseburg did not have anything to offer in terms of brew supplies. Thomas says he has always enjoyed brewing beer in his free time. Because of the poor economy, the trio wanted to get into a different line of work.
"I started home-brewing about four years ago," Thomas said. "I was originally in the construction business, but that kind of slowed down, and I decided I wanted to work with a roof over my head."
Thomas says many customers are excited their store is now open because before it opened, customers say they had to purchase all their supplies online.
The Andersons say they want to eventually produce a 100 percent Roseburg organic beer. That would mean step one out in the field all the way to bottling - all done in Roseburg. With so many beer-lovers in the area, the Andersons think Roseburgians will be excited.
