EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- A new group formed on Facebook is looking forward to getting out and exercising with their kids next week.
Moms on Skates was created by Lane County residents Ashley Blanchfill and Jen Kelley. The pair already enjoys skating with their kids, who are small and in strollers, and figure there are other mothers out there who would like to get out and join them.
More than two dozen people have 'liked' Moms on Skates' Facebook page. If the group gets big enough, they're hoping to find sponsors so they can rent skates and strollers to make it more accessible.
Blanchfill and Kelley said they welcome moms of all skill levels and will be happy to teach people how to skate. The event is not only for mothers, but to inspire kids, too.
"When you look at us even as parents we're on our phones constantly and kids are always on their DS or whatever Gameboy-type play system they have or computers, so to teach kids that we go outside and we exercise and it can be fun is a huge thing."
The group's first outing is planned for Tuesday, August 7th at 7 PM. They will meet at the bridge behind Valley River Center.
They hope to meet every Tuesday evening for as long as the weather will accommodate.
