Springfield (KMTR) - A Springfield man is in jail after police say he rammed a police car while running from a traffic stop.

A Springfield officer says just before 1 a.m. Monday, he pulled over a pickup driven by Thomas Odell Adams, 37, for failing to stop at a red traffic light. Adams put his truck in reverse and rammed the officer’s patrol car, according to the officer, causing significant damage. The officer was injured but did not require treatment.

Police say Adams then led police on a high-speed chase on 42nd Street, Olympic Street and 33rd Street. The chase ended when Adams truck crashed into a metal shop.

Officers say Adams ran away on foot but was quickly stopped and arrested.

Adams has an extensive criminal history including manslaughter and he had a state parole warrant for second-degree assault.

He now faces additional charges of assault, felony hit and run, and eluding police on foot and in a vehicle.

There are more factors involved here than what television reporting has information on....he is no bad seed but yet justly apprehensive towards authorities seeings how they expressed malice aforethought now and previously towards him
