EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- A 54-year old man is in the hospital with life threatening injuries after an alleged assault at Occupy Eugene's camp late Monday night.
Around 10:40 p.m. on Monday, December 19th, 2011, Eugene Police responded to the Occupy Eugene camp at Washington Jefferson Park for a call of a dispute. On scene, an EPD officer discovered a 54-year old man unresponsive, not breathing and with life threatening injuries.
An EPD spokeswoman, Melinda McLaughlin says the officer gave the man CPR until paramedics arrived on scene. The man was transported to a local Eugene/Springfield area hospital with life threatening injuries.
A Eugene Police forensics team was on scene until about 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, December 20th, 2011. Officers spent several hours inspecting a taped-off area in the northeast corner of the park, near the intersection of Washington Street and 7th Avenue.
McLaughlin says police interviewed several people on scene. As of Tuesday morning, EPD says no one is in custody in the case.
"It looks like the man may have been involved in a dispute or fight of some kind. He's a 54-year-old white male, but beyond that at this point, we're not able to release further details," said McLaughlin.
McLaughlin says officers responded to five disputes between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Monday evening.
