NORTH BEND, Ore. (KMTR) –- A SWAT standoff ended Monday morning when a man’s body was found at a North Bend home. The incident began around 8:30 PM Sunday after a man who was holed up in a house in the 700 block of Commercial Street shot at police.

North Bend Police reported officers entered the home around 5:45 AM and found 27-year-old Daniel Retallick, a former U.S. Marine, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face. He was found in the backyard with a rifle at his side.

Police say Retallick fired eight shots at officers Sunday night as the standoff began. Neighbors gathered around the scene; one witness said police used a megaphone to try to communicate with Retallick. Police eventually fired tear gas into the home without result. SWAT officers made the decision to enter the house after no activity was observed from inside for about ten hours.
