SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KMTR) -- A Springfield man is dead after his car crashed Saturday afternoon.

Springfield Police say accident happened in front of a gas station at 41st and Main Streets just after 4:30 PM. Investigators say the car was headed east when it went up onto the sidewalk and slammed into a bus stop sign post and bench and finally stopped between the gas station sign and a power pole.

The driver had to be cut out of the car. Paramedics performed CPR before the driver, 63-year-old Donald Gene Dorry, was taken to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police say a medical issue may have played a role in the crash.

I witnessed this accident or should I say I seen when the car crashed into the 76 sign. It was a tragic moment for all who seen it. My thoughts and prayers go out the family and friends of this man. May he RIP and may our community come together to support his family!
