EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Workers downtown on West Broadway say an unidentified man was yelling at cars ad pedestrians and talking to himself. He even walked up and over a moving vehicle.
They say the individual's bizarre behavior went on for 48 hours and they thought the man might be on drugs. Police arrested 37-year-old Markus Fletcher from Albany last night on charges of disorderly conduct and criminal mischief, but he was out of jail just a few hours later.
Some people downtown say they're now concerned about their safety.
“This is a beautiful area of Eugene; it's historic. There is a reason everyone is trying to promote the area. Yet to come down here as a young female . . . sometimes I feel secure with myself, but sometimes I'm afraid to walk to my car because I don't know if they are going to follow me or not,” said Jacki Clason, who works downtown.
Others who work in the area are more concern for the unknown man's health.
“It really doesn't matter to me as long as he gets the help. He could have been off medication. He could have been schizophrenic. You really don’t know what the cause is,” said Robert Moore who also works in the area of the incident.
Both of the workers told us they typically feel safe, working in downtown Eugene. They also wish Eugene police had more help for incidents such as this one.
