EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Competition was held Saturday for those hoping to shine this summer singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" on the big stage. Several contestants sang their hearts out at the National Anthem Tryout for the Eugene Emeralds on May 19, 2012, at the Valley River Center.

The Emeralds Baseball Club put the contest together once more this year in an effort to find people to sing the National Anthem at home games, which start up in June 2012 at PK Park.

People of all ages perform the anthem on various nights at the park. 10 year-old Payton Kirkpatrick is one person you might hear from before the first pitch. "I think I did pretty good . . . I'm nervous and excited at the same time,” said Kirkpatrick.

The Ems' opening home game is Friday, June 15, 2012.
