Eugene (KMTR) - A local Olympic hopeful is helping design the prize he's training to win.  Cyrus Hostetler competed in the 2008 Olympic Trials, and he'll be back at Hayward Field this summer, hoping to make the U.S. Olympic team for a bid to London.  When he's not training, Cyrus works for the TrackTown USA team, and has a hand in designing the medal athletes hope to come away with at the trials.

Hostetler says he wanted to make a big statement with the design, and is taking input from USA Track & Field, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and the local TrackTown team.  He also used his experience as an athlete to create something he wants to wear around his own neck.

Hostetler says he originally set out to become an architect, and was part of a robotics team at his high school before he fell into graphic design.  Now, he's the web manager and graphic designer for TrackTown USA.

To juggle his Olympic-caliber schedule, Cyrus works mornings for the TrackTown folks.  After lunch, he hits the field to train for about five hours every day.  Luckily, his bosses understand he needs the afternoons off.
