Seems like there is a lot of hysteria here for no reason at all. I would bet that no one would even see any difference if a coal train passed by their own front yard unless they were within the first several miles of the coal plant. Just like a hay truck, the first mile all kinds of stuff is blowing off, then near nothing. Let us kill more jobs. Let us create more unproven hysteria. Let us just drift off into bankruptcy and inflation and all the other ills of an economy in the dregs. Common sense people, common sense.

Coal stinks and so does this project-hey lady from springfield-we aren't living in Coos Bay, we have to worry about the concequences of this and the relation to the rest of the environment.

Fine: support your railway improvements, support the use of railways for tourism. Just don’t support the transport of coal! To do so, knowing that it can’t/won’t be covered and that coal dust will be sifted all over the pacific northwest to pollute and cause untold destruction to plant, animal and human health would be the height of stupidity. I can only hope that if it does come down to a vote, that the county commissioners will actually listen to the voice of the people and use care regarding what we here in Oregon have come to realize is fast disappearing nationwide: the pure natural setting and unspoiled beauty of Oregon. Please, commissioners, I beg you don’t destroy it with one vote in favor of coal transports coming through and covering Oregon with coal dust.
