EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- The Lane County Sheriffs Office (LCSO) says it recently developed information regarding a potential plot by an inmate to solicit the killing of the assigned prosecutor and witnesses involved in his prosecution.
LCSO Says the inmate was also planning an escape from custody. Detectives have been working overtime to uncover the plot as well as to protect the involved witnesses and prosecutor.
The inmate at the center of this investigation is being held on felony charges including criminal homicide. He remains in custody at the Lane County Adult Correctional Facility on those charges.
Lane County Sheriff's personnel, as well as law enforcement officers from other agencies say they have been working diligently and will continue to do so to protect the safety of the threatened parties.
No charges have been filed yet and the investigation is continuing. Several persons of interest have been identified whom police are looking to round up and question.
