COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (KMTR) -- A special contest for kids and teens came to a culmination on Saturday in Cottage Grove, honoring young entrepreneurs on their quest to create.

The “Delight” shop in downtown Cottage Grove announced the winners of its “Young Entrepreneur Awards” contest on Saturday, March 17th, 2012.

The shop, which is right next to the new arch on Main Street, started the contest, getting local kids from Cottage Grove and nearby to make products for sale.

Nearly 20 kids took part, making items including stuffed animal decorations, lip balm, jewelry, clothing and more.

After the products were made, local residents voted on their favorites, submitting around 700 votes.

Two local teens won grand prizes in the contest, including Vesta Snyder and Autumn Tillson.

Snyder created a set of various clay-sculpted vegetable earrings under a brand named “Veggi.”

Tillson made collage style picture frames.

The products are now for sale at the “Delight” shop. Each one of the kids and teens participating gets to keep 100 percent of the sales of the items.

“I never really expected to make stuff that I could actually sell so, getting an opportunity to enter a contest where I could do that was really interesting to me and to learn how to make a profit off it and to copy the item was really cool,” says Tillson, a 14-year old who made multiple picture frames with different styles for the contest.

“If you have something that you like to do just do it, and like, yeah just try!” says Snyder.

Both Autumn and Vesta also took home 100 dollars each in cash as part of the contest.
