JUNCTION CITY, Ore. (KMTR) -- Classmates and family friends of Julius Schmidt held a car wash fundraiser Sunday to help pay for a memorial bench and assist the Schmidt family with their expenses. Julius was killed last weekend, hit by a train passing through town.
Parents organizing the car wash say it was a positive outlet for the kids and a simple way they could help Julius family. The fundraiser ran from noon to 5 PM, with the groups raising $350 just in the first two hours.
Part of the money raised will pay for a bench and plaque to be placed in the new skate park in Junction City. A memorial service will take place September 22 next to the skate park. Friends say anyone is welcome to attend.
