Junction City mental health hospital contractor seeks local companies to help
JUNCTION CITY, Ore. (KMTR) -- The construction firm in charge of building Oregon’s new state mental health facility in Junction City is now reaching out to the local and surrounding communities with opportunities to help put local businesses to work.
With an audience of about 50 to 60 people, Hoffman Construction held the first of two meetings on Tuesday, July 31st, 2012, to talk about how local businesses can get involved with building the new hospital.
Contractors are now prepping the ground at the site of the new hospital by trucking in rock and filling soft spots. Work at the site near the intersection of Highway 99 and Mill Iron Road should continue for the next several months. Crews hope to finish the ground work by September 2012, then begin physical building foundation construction on the property by the end of the year.
The company behind it, Hoffman Construction, now wants to hear from local businesses who want to help with the project.
Hoffman says it’s looking for local companies to provide various job site and construction services. Job site services include printing, catering, construction and office supply stocking, fuel service, security, equipment repair, sanitation work and more.
Larger scale services will include actual construction jobs.
The entire project will be subcontracted according to Hoffman. State supervisors say their goal is to stay local. During the recent Salem state mental health facility construction, supervisors say about 90% of the companies that were involved were local from Oregon or southwest Washington.
"We are slated to be done at the end for 2014, so there's a lot of opportunity. We we strongly encourage folks to contact us,” says Jodie Jones, the Oregon State Hospital Replacement Project Administrator.
“Check out the types of things that they can participate in while we're constructing the project,” says Jones.
One of the people hoping to take part in the build work, Debby Wittekind, hopes her Harrisburg business C&C Cornwell Tools will benefit.
“It is nice to see what, I mean, it's a big project, and I think that there's a lot of people in the community that can learn and grow with it,” says Wittekind.
Hoffman estimates between 1,800 and 2,400 different people will work on the job site in Junction City.
The construction firm is planning to hold another local job opportunity meeting geared toward construction companies in August. The meeting will take place on August 23rd from 1 to 3 PM at Oaklea Middle School in Junction City.
