Eugene, Ore (KMTR) A U.O. student is taking music into his own hands by crafting a home-made boom-box for his iPhone, and he says you could make one too.
Marcus Triest agrees there's no shortage of portable speakers for the iPhone or iPod, but he says most of them lack a curtain style and functionality.
An architecture student, he decided to he'd just make one himself. He came up with a wooden boom-box-esque creation. He says he wanted something simple, portable, and strong, with an old school feel.
Online the design has gone viral with dozens of websites reposting Triest’s creation. He's trying to use that attention to his advantage.
"I've gotten a lot of emails just in the first week,” says Triest, “people that are interested, encouragement, interviews, in terms of tracking the number, it's only speculation, but views on certain blogs, it has to be over a hundred thousand, just on blogs that I know of."
The recognition has paid off. He’s already an industrial design firm in San Francisco has contacted him about an internship.
The material to make the boom-box, the wood frame, speaker, and plastic, Triest says cost about 35 dollars total.
