Eugene (KMTR) – There is growing concern over the future of an historic Eugene bed and breakfast inn; The Campbell House at the side of Skinner Butte may be forced to close.

The Campbell House, built in 1892, was a private home before becoming a bed & breakfast in the mid-1990's.

The Register-Guard is reporting that it be foreclosed, shut down and be sold to pay off the owner's $985,000 debt.

Neighbors say they hope it won’t come to that.

Jolayne McDow, who lives nearby, says when the Campbell House became a bed & breakfast, it became a real star of the area, allowing visitors to Eugene see a wonderful piece of the city's history.

“It's historic, it's beautiful.  It's been brought back from times when it was completely falling apart and people had given up on the structure to what it is now.  And I think that the whole neighborhood—and this is a guess—but I think the neighborhood wants it to continue," said McDow.

The owners of the Campbell House also own Tolly's Restaurant in Oakland, north of Roseburg.  This past summer, they tried to have a raffle to give away Tolly's but there weren’t enough entrants.

Both businesses are also for sale.

The manager of the Campbell House declined to comment on the situation.
