SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KMTR) - The Biggest Loser Run/Walk race series is coming to Springfield. Tonight, the first in a series of small reports leading up to it.

The Biggest Loser Run/Walk is happening on Sunday, April 14. There are 5k and 15k options plus a children's one-mile run. Between now and then, KMTR NewsSource 16's goal is to help you get ready for the walk . . . especially those of you who may not be ready to cover that distance.

If losing weight is your goal, diet and exercise is a must. The key is figuring out which model fits you best. Trainers we spoke with say the best way to start is to find a program that fits you. Having a partner helps, too.

"Some days your partner needs some motivation and some days you're going to need some motivation," said Tyler Dodds, a personal trainer. "It has an element of a support system and it keeps you accountable. "

Trainers also say that nutrition is key. They recommend to start by cutting out soda and drinking more water.

The first Biggest Loser Run/Walk happens April 14 at the Willamalane Center at Main street and 32nd in Springfield. For more information and to register, visit http://www.biggestloserrunwalk.com/Springfield-OR-5K-15K-KidsRace-2013.
