Eugene (KMTR) - Times may be hard, but when it comes to lending a hand. Oregonians are stepping up.  According to AARP, charitable giving in Oregon is up significantly this year.

FOOD for Lane County has seen this first hand.

Deb McGeorge of FOOD for Lane County says more groups have stepped forward to help out the food bank in the last year than any other time in the history of the agency.

“And I really think that alot of that is they're so grateful to have their jobs, they're so grateful for what they do have, that they're willing to share that with other folks,” McGeorge said.

The holidays tend to be the time of year when people give the most.  Several food drives are already underway in Lane County and more are planned.
