Springfield (KMTR) - During the week after Christmas, kids in Springfield have a low-cost opportunity to learn the finer points of basketball.  Scholarships are available for families who cannot afford the three-day Shooting Stars Camp.

Springfield dad Patrick Hurley started the program because he saw how expensive basketball and soccer camps can be for families.

The Shooting Stars skill-building camp costs $25 for Springfield boys and girls from kindergarten through fifth grade.

Hurley says, “The big thing they're going to experience is they're going to get a chance to play and have a good time and learn. Because what we really do is we try to set the table for them to get the idea about the sport.”

With help from sponsors like Knecht's Auto Parts, The Pump Café, OMT Mortgage and Brad's Chevrolet in Cottage Grove, no child will be turned away if they can't afford the fee to participate.

The camp will be held Tuesday, December 27th through Thursday the 29th at Willamalane Sports Center on 32nd Street in Springfield.
