Goshen (KMTR) - A man who escaped a house fire in Goshen late Monday night is no stranger to house fires.“The owner of this residence is a former volunteer with our fire district,” said Goshen Fire Chief David Wolting. “His daughter is also a firefighter with the City of Springfield, so these folks are one of our own.”
Firefighters say the man called 911 around 11 p.m. to report his own home was burning. The home is on B Street across from Goshen Elementary School.
Goshen firefighters called in mutual aid from surrounding fire departments, but they were unable to save the home; it was a total loss. No one was hurt and the pets were saved.
Chief Wolting said crews spent part of the night making sure they weren't leaving behind hot spots “to make sure that when we leave it's totally out and extinguished and there's not going to be any rekindles to where we have to come back and take care of this further.”
Fire investigators are looking for the cause. They the fire may have started in a small attached building. The fire chief says there is nothing suspicious about the fire.
