Eugene (KMTR) - Tuesday, six former Olympians paid a visit to the Westmoreland Boys and Girls Club.  It's part of national Olympic Day, organized by the U.S. Olympic Committee; a celebration of the games, and a way for athletes to get kids excited about sport.

Athletes all across the nation will spend time with kids in their communities this week promoting Olympic ideals like fair play, and perseverance.  Olympians in Eugene Tuesday say they're excited to pay it forward, and share some of the lessons they were once taught by their own mentors.

A couple athletes brought their gold medals along and gave the kids a once-in-a-lifetime chance to pass them around.

I hope they tell them to work hard and you can go far. I hope they tell them that not everyone will win, but if you train hard and keep trying you can win, it may not be everytime but to do their best and then they are winners. I hope the tell them that its ok to lose, but try again and learn from it. Life is not fair you get what you work for in sports and in life. You don't need anything handed to you, educate yourself and train hard and you will go far.
