LEBANON, Ore. (KMTR) -- A former
Lebanon High School band teacher and current
Beaverton teacher is facing sex abuse charges involving a student at
Lebanon High School.
34-year-old Joshua Edward Head was arrested by Lebanon Police on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 after turning himself in at the Lebanon Justice Center. Head is charged with four misdemeanor counts of Sex Abuse III.
The investigation began two months ago, in November 2011. A former Lebanon High School student, who’s now 22 years old, told Lebanon Police that she had a sexual relationship with Head when she was seventeem.
Lebanon High School hired Head in August 2004. He remained the school’s band teacher until June 2007.
Lebanon Police say the relationship happened between 2006 and 2007.
Detectives say the woman stepped forward now because she now feels that she was taken advantage of.
Head is currently a band teacher at Beaverton High School, where he’s been since August 2007.
Many students at the school Thursday were stunned, calling Head an outgoing and funny person that they couldn’t imagine being involved in a case like this.
“He's never shown anything that would lead you to believe that he would do something like that,” said one male student. “In my mind he's just a really good guy so, I don't see that he would do that.”
Another male student said, “He's a friend to everybody. And he was just a generally nice guy and it didn't seem like he would be the one to do that.”
Beaverton High School placed Head on administrative leave in early December. So far, he has yet to return to the job.
Head was booked, cited and released in Linn County, but he did not spend any time in jail and remains out as of Thursday, January 5, 2012.
Head is due in Linn County Court on February 1, 2012.
Lebanon Police is still investigating the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Shelly McInnes at 541-258-4329.
