SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KMTR) – A recovery effort was made on the Willamette River Saturday after a medical emergency took the life of a fisherman.
Emergency crews responded to the West D Street boat ramp in Springfield just after 10 AM on Saturday, September 8, 2012, after receiving a call about an unconscious man in the river.
Springfield Police say a fisherman in his 60s was found unconscious on his pontoon boat by two other boaters.
Earlier in the morning, the boaters told police that the victim said that he wasn't feeling well.
When first responders got to the man, they were unable to revive him.
“The only thing people could do is maybe if somebody is saying that, people could pull over to the side and make sure they make it out to the side and ask if they call 911 or something for him. I mean, obviously, he says he's not feeling good, something is obviously wrong,” says Sergeant Russ Boring of the Springfield Police Department.
Police say there appears to be no foul play in the man’s death. The victim's name has yet to be released.
