THURSTON, Ore. (KMTR) -- The state Fire Marshal is investigating a mobile home fire in Thurston reported around 8:30 Tuesday night at the Mountain View Mobile Home Park off Daisy Street.

NewsSource 16 was told the fire started at the back of a vacant home. More than fifteen Springfield firefighters responded. One neighbor said the home has been empty for years and he thinks the fire is suspicious because the home didn't even have electricity.

Richard Baszler said, "Kids and the homeless knew it was empty. The guy passed away four years ago so they knew that it was a vacant house and people were just sneaking in and out. Like I said, there's no electricity or nothing in there so nothing that could start a fire, so it seems kind of funny to me.”

Baszler says he and others helped nearby neighbors get out of their homes in the event the fire spread. The cause is still under investigation.
