Cottage Grove (KMTR) – A family is without a place to live after a fasting-moving fire destroyed their home in a Cottage Gove mobile home park. The family was not home when the fire broke out around 9 p.m. Saturday at Riverstone Mobile Home Park.
“I was laying in my bedroom in bed and I heard some screaming and came out… and it's terrifying,” said neighbor Judith Olmstead.
Three people lived in the home; two adults and their teenage daughter. Flames destroyed virtually everything inside.
Next door, just a few feet away, Judith Olmstead's home escaped damage, thanks to her neighbors hosing down her home before firefighters arrived.
The neighbors in the park are now trying to help the family get back on its feet.
“I have health problems and they [the burned-out family] help me all of the time, and they have for years,” said Olmstead. “They help everybody; their neighbors. They're just wonderful people and they're going to need a lot of help. It’s time now for us to turn around and help give them some help.”
The American Red Cross is also helping the family.
Anyone who is interested in helping is invited to call Riverstone Mobile Home Park at (541) 942-4147.
