Lorane (KMTR) - Fire crews were called to a burning maintenance barn at King Estate Winery early Thursday morning.  The fire was reported by employees to 911 about 2:00 a.m. at the winery on Territorial Highway just outside the community of Lorane.

Paint and finished wine was usually stored in the barn, which was completely destroyed.

Firefighters say their biggest challenge was getting water to the fire, since it is in such a remote area.  They used special trucks to haul in water.

"The access to the area itself is too small to have a significant amount of other water tenders coming in to try to shuttle them back and forth. So we have two problems in this area; one is access and the most significant is water," explained Marty Nelson, Chief of Lane County Fire District 1.

At one point, an underground propane tank was fueling the fire.  The tank was quickly shut off.

Investigators don not yet know yet how the fire started.
