Eugene (KMTR) - Wins over the weekend by the Oregon Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers have created a “Run for the Roses” like none we have never seen. The winner of the Civil War game will go to the Rose Bowl to play Ohio State.
Saturday’s football games were barely over when the excitement began building for the Thursday, December 3rd Civil War match-up.
Fans and businesses are quickly making preparations.
The thrill of Oregon’s win over Arizona had not yet ebbed when Civil War T-shirts went on the racks at the Duck Store in Eugene. “Beat Oregon” T-shirts are on sale at the OSU Bookstore.
Across from Autzen Stadium, The Cooler Bar and Grill is usually a packed house on game days. And they get ready for a big game just like the team does. And no game is bigger this year than the Civil War.
One employee told us, “Everybody who works here, or ever worked here that we can get to come back and work, will be here.”
An employee at Prime-Time Sports Bar in Springfield also expects an overflow crowd: “With so much at stake, I think it's going to be jam-packed and wall-to-wall!"
Oregon’s win over Arizona is driving up Civil War online ticket prices. Several tickets are going for hundreds of dollars each on Craigslist. One ad offers two tickets on the 47-yard line for $700. It’s a similar story at Goducks.com, where one pair of tickets on the 50-yard line was priced at $1,250.
Web surfers who weren't looking to buy tickets over the weekend were probably checking out the latest BCS standings. “BCS standings" was the second most-searched topic on Yahoo.com on Sunday. The top Yahoo search: “Jennifer Lopez.”
The BCS poll has the Ducks ranked 8th in the country and the Beavers are number 16.
