VIDA, Ore. (KMTR) -- Traffic was shut down for several hours early Wednesday morning and then delayed for a few hours longer after a large tree fell across the entire roadway on Oregon Highway 126 about eleven miles east of Vida.
The hazard was reported after 4 AM. The blocked highway caused the McKenzie School District to delay bus transportation and the start of classes for two hours.
The tree was leaning on communication cables which were cut to allow it to be removed. An Oregon Department of Transportation tree feller was dispatched to cut up and remove the six-foot-diameter tree. Enough of the tree had been removed by 7:30 AM to allow one lane of traffic through the area.
Eastbound drivers were being asked to avoid the area by using Highways 20 or 58.
