ASTORIA, Ore. (KMTR) -- Astoria Police have an active Social Media presence and it was a private Facebook message that got this case moving. When you post "Drivin drunk... classsic ;) but to whoever's vehicle i hit i am sorry. :P" on Facebook you have to figure that it is not going to stay private long.

On January 1 at 1:00 AM, Officer Riley was called to respond to 1884 5th Street for a hit-and run crash. She responded and found that person(s) unknown had sideswiped a white Scion sedan, doing significant damage to the car. Officer Clausen, who was assisting, seized several pieces of taillight and bumper cover.

A second vehicle parked in front of the Scion had damage as well. Later in the day, Officer Riley got a private Facebook message from someone who wanted to report that they had seen Jacob Cox-Brown, age 18 of Astoria, post on Facebook that he had been involved in a crash and was drunk.

Sergeant Aydt also got a call from another 'friend' of Cox-Brown's who saw the same thing. Aydt and Clausen went to Cox-Brown's house and found a vehicle that matched the damage done to the two vehicles at the early morning crash.

They were also able to match pieces left behind at the scene of the crash to the vehicle registered to Cox-Brown. Cox-Brown was arrested and lodged at the Clatsop County Jail. He was charged with two counts of Failing to Perform the Duties of a Driver.
