Corvallis (KMTR) – Police in Corvallis say a Facebook photo has helped them catch a man accused of rape.

Fernando Antonio Gonzalez, 22, was arrested and is in the Benton County jail.

Court documents show the alleged rape happened at a Corvallis party at an apartment on 21st and Taylor Streets in May.  The victim did not know her attacker, and neither did any of the other party guests.

The court documents also show it was a Facebook photo taken at the party that finally tipped off police in the Portland area.

After he was identified by his live-in girlfriend, Gonzalez was arrested.

Benton County District Attorney John Haroldson said, "These are matters we take very, very seriously and we intend to move forward with prosecution in this case for that conduct.  When we look at these issues, we have to certainly take into consideration what it means for the public’s safety."

Court papers also say the officer who identified Gonzalez with the Facebook photo was a school resource officer at the high school Gonzalez attended.  He pulled out a yearbook and matched the two photos.
