Eugene (KMTR) - Property owners in Eugene who rent out their homes or apartments can get an extra pair of eyes to watch over their property from the Eugene Police Department—and it doesn't cost those property owners a dime.Landlords may register their properties with the police department. Then, any time police respond to that property, the owner is immediately notified by email.
“If they've been burglarized or had property stolen, it s a good way for landlords to touch base with their tenants and say, ‘This happened to you; your bike was stolen. Is there something I can do as a landlord, security wise, that might make your property—our property—less vulnerable?’” explained Kelly Putnam, a Eugene crime prevention specialist.
The program also lets property owners know when they may have a troublesome tenant.
Nearly 2,000 properties are currently registered with EPD’s rental program.
