EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- A local doctor’s office is stepping up to help parents and kids get ready for the Pop Warner football season on a budget.
The NeuroSpine Institute (NSI) is offering $10 sports physicals to any kids intending to enroll in the Willamette Valley Pop Warner (WVPW) football program for the 2012 season.
Kids in kindergarten through eighth grades have to get a sports physical exam before they can play in the league.
All of the money raised through the event will go to the WVPW league’s scholarship fund.
This is the first time NSI has done the physical exam program for WVPW. It’s expecting between 200 and 300 kids to take part.
"The biggest part is just to clear the young athletes for participation and make sure they don't have any pre-existing problems that would limit them,” says Dr. Scott Kitchel, an orthopedic surgeon for the NeuroSpine Institute.
“Most of us grew up in this area and were able to participate in sports when we were young because someone stepped out and did this for us,” says Dr. Kitchel.
The $10 sports physical happens next Tuesday, July 17th, 2012, at the NSI headquarters located at 74B Centennial Loop Suite 300 in Eugene, which is around the corner from “The Cooler” bar.
The event starts up at 5 p.m. For more information, call Laura at 541-852-1064 or Jana at 541-284-8688.
