EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Eugene police say they're seeing an increase in home break-ins in the Cal Young area.
Officers canvassed the area on Tuesday warning residents about the knock-and-go-around method, where thieves knock on the front door and if no one answers, they'll go around back.
When we were out with police, not many people were home which is proof just how easy it is for crooks to get inside. All recent burglaries have happened during the day, usually between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM. In several cases, people have reported a suspicious Asian woman trying to sell cleaning products.
Sergeant Lisa Barrong of the Eugene Police Department (EPD) says, “She's being very forceful when she goes in. She’s knocking at the door and then kind of immediately pushing her way in and asking questions about ‘when do you work’ and ‘do you live alone’ and this kind of thing. As of today we've received numerous reports all over the city about this [woman's] behavior."
Police say if you're not going to be home during the day, at least try to make it look like you’re there. Leave your TV or music on or lights on inside your home. Also, watch out for your neighbors and let them know when you'll be out of town.
