I don't mean to sound insensitive about the homeless but Eugene has more than its fair share as it is, without putting up a neon sign stating we are providing more campsites for them. The homeless camping at the "occupy" site became such a fiasco and such a mess. Not all homeless are drunks and druggies, but many do have substance abuse issues. Placing a homeless camp near a school is not a good idea at all.

This should go over like a lead balloon. I think they should put it near a white-bread school in South Eugene. We would see how tolerant the Diversity crowd really is.

I know how it is to be homeless as my husband & I were for 16 mos 2 yrs ago.Just before we were fortunate enough to secure our present place, we had a spot out far end of River Rd. by construction site. We liked it as we didn't have to put up with other peoples daily 'drama' which we had witnessed in other spots we had been at before.I have 3 grand kids and I wouldn't want them that close to a group of homeless people - sorry to say! You just don't know on daily basis how people are going to react to an sudden upheaval under those conditions! Of course not all homeless are walking such a tightrope but one never knows! Innocent children don't need to be put in a situation like that for any reason! I PRAY this plan happens but NOT NEAR A SCHOOL!!
