Eugene (KMTR) - A north Eugene couple is charged with aggravated murder in connection with the death of their teenage daughter.

Investigators say paramedics arrived at 154 Howard Avenue Wednesday night after receiving a 911 call reporting that a person was not breathing.

According to the Lane County Sheriff's Office, 16-year-old Jeanette Maples was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.  Based on the observations of the first responders, deputies were called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

After investigating throughout the night, deputies arrested the victim's mother, 41-year-old Angela McAnulty and stepfather, 40-year-old Richard McAnulty on a preliminary charge of aggravated murder.

According to court documents, authorities are investigating whether the victim's death was the result of torture and abuse.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner are still investigating.

Angela was a friend of mine when she lived in Sacramento. Jeanette was just a toddler and so adorable. Angela lost custody of the kids and they begged the judge not to make them go back to her. Who was this judge that sent them back to her? He is the one that we should hold to blame as well as Angela and her husband. Children are supposed to be coddled and hugged and loved. They are precious and innocent. Never harm your children. Always love them, for they are only children for a short time in their life, then they become adults and have children of their own. Rest in peace Jeanette. Just know that we all love you.

this story was so hard to read, i saw a picture of Jeanette, she looked so sweet, happy, full of life and her potential for her future could be seen in her eyes. then suddenly cut short, murdered by her own family! one who gave birth to Jeanette, i have to wonder what caused the mother to react this way to her own child! what had Jeanette done to be so horrifically punished as to lose her life? when i looked at Jeanette's picture i saw a child on the fringe of adulthood, with her whole life ahead, so much promise and potential! what happened? jealousy? fear? it appears Jeanette was made a scapegoat for her parent's frustrations and inability to cope. after looking at their pictures, i see two animals out of control. my question to them is did you solve your problem by murdering Jeanette? did you feel better seeing Jeanette dead? did you like it? what about your other children? where are they now? when i look at your pictures, i see two animals with no guilt, perhaps a little worry since you were captured, now you have to be wondering what will happen to you? i think you should pay severely for what you did to Jeanette. Your destruction of Jeanette's life was not a spur of the moment idea was it? this happened over a period of time didn't it? if you ever got to the point where someting about Jeanette's attitude or behavior pressed you to the point where you lost control, ther is always another way to deal with this, but murdering Jeanette was not the way, all this has done was to create another more serious problem, which now the both of you are facing, and this one does have longer lasting consequences. doesen't it? i believe you animals should severely pay for your crime of murdering your child! you really took a life that was not yours to take!

Everyone involved in this case are losers, with the exception of Janette Marie-- as she is with Jesus and she will suffer no more. As the biological Grandmother and Aunts and Uncles, we arbor no hatred towards anyone. The facts have not been made public. Our prayers are directed towards all family members. May Janette rest in peace. A truly beautiful angel and precious child of God. Sandy Maples McElroy.
