Eugene (KMTR) - A north Eugene couple is charged with aggravated murder in connection with the death of their teenage daughter.
Investigators say paramedics arrived at 154 Howard Avenue Wednesday night after receiving a 911 call reporting that a person was not breathing.
According to the Lane County Sheriff's Office, 16-year-old Jeanette Maples was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Based on the observations of the first responders, deputies were called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
After investigating throughout the night, deputies arrested the victim's mother, 41-year-old Angela McAnulty and stepfather, 40-year-old Richard McAnulty on a preliminary charge of aggravated murder.
According to court documents, authorities are investigating whether the victim's death was the result of torture and abuse.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner are still investigating.
