Eugene (KMTR) - In a make or break vote today, the Eugene City Council approved a rapid transit line proposed for West 11th Avenue.
The vote was seven for and one against. George Poling was the single council member to vote against it.
If the plan's environmental impact study is approved by the federal government, the new line could be up and running by early 2017.
The West Eugene route would travel along West 6th, and 7th Avenues. It would hit parts of West 11th, and end at a new station on Commerce Street.
The new route would cover nearly 9 miles round trip.
LTD Would build 25 new EmX stations, and bring on seven new EmX high speed buses.
There are already Lane Transit District EmX lines along Franklin Boulevard, Pioneer Parkway, and Gateway Street.
