EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- An elderly Eugene couple was seriously injured Monday afternoon when their vehicle traveled off Highway 126W two miles west of Eugene and rolled multiple times.
On January 28, at approximately 4:25 PM, a 1988 Ford Escort driven by Billy J. Hamby, age 78, from Eugene, was westbound on Highway 126W near Goble Lane when, according to witnesses, it crossed the highway into the opposite ditch and rolled multiple times.
Billy Hamby and his wife/passenger Betty R. Hamby, age 76, were extricated from the car by Eugene Fire & Rescue. Billy Hamby was transported by LifeFlight with critical injuries to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. Betty Hamby was transported by ambulance to the same hospital with serious injuries.
OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. Trooper Michael Berland is the lead investigator.
ODOT coordinated traffic control in the crash area.
