EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) – A Eugene deputy fire marshal is looking into what may have caused a fast-moving fire early Tuesday at a condominium complex on River Road in north Eugene. The fire was quickly put out and tenants in other units have been allowed to return to their condos.
The fire was reported by a passerby at the Parkview Terrace condos around 4:40 a.m. The 911 caller first smelled smoke and then saw it billowing from a window.
No one was hurt. One unit had to be evacuated.
“Certainly, at 5 o'clock in the morning, in a residence full of smoke, our immediate concern is if there's an occupant inside,” said Eugene District Fire Chief Craig Shelby. “So we forced entry and made a very aggressive search to determine whether there was somebody still inside, and made a very aggressive interior fire attack.”
One duplex was damaged. It took 22 firefighters to get the fire under control.
