Roseburg (KMTR) – The managers of the Douglas County Library in Roseburg grappling with budget numbers, trying to do what seems impossible. They are trying to come up with plan to cut 10% to 15% from their budget. But Library Director Max Leek says there’s nothing left to cut.

The library has already reduced staff; there are no full time employees, and operation hours have already been nearly cut in half.

“So much of the budget is in central services, which would have to stay there,” Leek says, “so we still have to have our computer system, our system for buying books or even processing gift books—all those systems would still have to be in place even if you cut a few hours here or a few hours there.”

Even now, Leek says, the library is only kept open, thanks to grants and gifts, which aren't always guaranteed.
