Eugene (KMTR) – Staff at the Lane Blood Center say they usually see more local interest in donating blood after a natural disaster hits, but they want to encourage people to keep giving all year long. Once an emergency need for blood arises, medical caregivers only have immediate access to blood that’s already been donated, tested, and processed. Blood Center reps say making regular donations help them stay prepared for the next disaster.
The Lane Blood Center has not yet been asked to send donations to victims of Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast, but staff members say they’re ready if the call comes.
