EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Lane County Sheriff's are investigating a death at an expansive property in a rural part of South Eugene.

Deputies tell NewsSource 16 a friend checked on the people living at a home at the end of Needham Road around 7 PM Friday night. The property is off Lorane Highway near Blanton Road.

One person was found dead inside the home and a second person was found hurt.

Investigators won't say how it happened nor who the people are, only that it's a crime scene.

The property is large and used by several people, including to board animals. The focus is making sure everyone is accounted for.

Carrie Carver from the Lane County Sheriff's office says,"There's a large area of land out here and it seems like maybe neighbors and other folks use the land for a variety of reasons, so we're just trying to make sure there isn't any other crime scene on the property and we want to make sure everybody's okay. We're looking at multiple acres in the double digits."

No arrests have been made and it's not clear why friends were checking on the people in the first place.

More details as they become available.
