EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Eugene Police are investigating a collision in north Eugene where a cyclist was hit by a car. The car's windshield was smashed where the cyclist hit it.

When they arrived, the bike was still underneath the car.

Police say the sixteen-year-old cyclist suffered serious injuries, but not serious head injuries because he was wearing a helmet.

The 28-year-old driver was cited for driving with a suspended license.

The cyclist was going south in the northbound lanes and was cited for riding against the flow of traffic.

I'm wondering if it isn't the same guy that I nearly hit a few days ago because he was riding recklessly going in and out of the bike lane AGAINST traffic in the same area. I do my best to be hyper aware of cyclists, but sometimes they are just reckless.

@Milton... Cars legally pass through the bike lane all the time to make turns, enter or exit the roadway, move into turning lanes or go through intersections. @synchan... I say his fault alone because there were no citations to indicate the driver had done anything violating traffic law other than suspended license and the cyclist was cited for a moving violation.

Not so sure about the your fault alone part, but I do agree that too many cyclists ignore the law and ride against traffic. You are correct about the looks you receive when you almost clip them because they're weaving around and coming close to you as you pass them. Ridiculous. Hope the rider is okay though.

Sorry, cyclist... but it's your fault and your fault alone that you were hit. I'm so sick of seeing cyclists not follow the rules of the road. It's against the law to ride against the flow of traffic. I almost hit a man doing the same exact thing and he gave me a look like I was the biggest jerk in the world when HE was the one in the wrong.
